The Liebster award

I can’t believe I’m writing this post, my first blog award! :))))) It was given to me by lovely moonchild :) And what does Liebster mean? Liebster is a German word and it means dearest, kindest, nicest, sweetest, fondest, beloved, lovely, pleasant, valued. How sweet!! :)))
Liebster-Award
So, here are the rules:

"The Liebster Award is for bloggers with under 300 Followers and the Rules of the Award are that the nominee must link back to whoever awarded them, write 11 Random Facts about themselves, answer 11 question from the award giver and then nominate another 11 bloggers and make up 11 questions for them to answer. It's a great way for new and undiscovered bloggers to meet new people, get more followers and find some blogs that they want to follow."

Since I’m at home right now, bedridden with flu, I finally have the time to properly answer the questions and prepare new ones :) Here it goes…

11 random facts about myself:

  1. One thing I absolutely cannot live without is music. I listen to all sorts of genres, from a capella to brutal death metal and all in between. My playlist has to have everything on it because I never know the mood I’ll be in. When it comes to genres it’s more about which one I prefer more and which one I prefer less, or just specific songs that get on my nerves :D
  2. The other thing I really cannot live without (and it’s connected with the matter above) is singing. I’ve been singing and performing all my life, I have some video footage of my early life performances as a child that I don’t remember happening because I was too little :) That feeling of being on stage watched by thousands and doing something you really enjoy doing and people liking it… such awesome exchange of energies, it’s soooo amazing :)))
  3. I too looooove watching TV series such as Gilmore Girls, 3rd Rock From The Sun, Sex And The City, The Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy, Dexter, Family Guy, Gossip Girl, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Top Gear… too many to name them all…
  4. I don’t like fantasy that much. I didn’t share the excitement of The Lord of The Rings (I’ve watched all movies and I think they were well made, but not something I would watch again), I haven’t watched a single episode of Game of Thrones, I’m not intrigued by Twilight and Once Upon A Time does nothing for me. On the other hand I have read and enjoyed books by Terry Pratchett – the way this guy writes is so witty and intelligent, I’m glad my friends persuaded me to read him (even though it IS fantasy) :)
  5. I also don’t like horrors. They keep haunting me long after I’ve seen them (I’m talking about movies such as Paranormal – I was too afraid to watch it), I liked Final Destination II though, it wasn’t scary at all and the effects were really cool and explicit. :)
  6. I always had a fascination with witches :))) They are totally awesome, and I love (black) cats :))) I love Halloween too with all the haunted houses and bats motives :)
  7. My obsession with polishes was on and off since my teenage years (btw I have a video footage of my nails being painted red by a grandma figure when I was 3 I think :D it was a very rare occasion, my nails were otherwise bare all the time). My cousin once gave me a load of polishes she didn’t like color wise and I was extremely happy but I was also buying them myself. The problem all these years was they were those really cheap low quality polishes and it wasn’t as much fun dealing with those as it is now with cheap better quality ones :) This last phase of addiction worsened with Essence Twilight Vampire’s Love – then I discovered beauty blogs and my stash quadrupled in a year and a half…
  8. Before hoarding polishes I used to hoard pens, markers, post it’s and paper of all colors. After college I don’t need this stuff anymore so now it’s just filling my drawers. I would love to use that stuff again, but I’ve got nothing to use it for…
  9. I have a soft spot for family and family ties, it’s very very important to me that the relationships are good (sometimes though they are not, and one cannot choose his own family). It is something I am willing to work on all the time.
  10. I love accents and I love languages. I am fluent in English and I can speak some Serbian/Croatian (I am not very good at distinguishing the difference all the time though :/) but I’ve learnt German and Spanish as well. The problem is I’ve forgotten most of German and Spanish that I knew because I don’t use it… I still remember some things, I mostly understand it, but I can’t put a sentence together without grammatical mistakes (and I regret that).
  11. I get annoyed when girls treat guys unfairly, being “typically” women. I don’t know how to explain this, but I remember a scene from a movie I saw for Christmas – Letters to Santa (IMDb) where a family was driving in a car and the father didn’t want to disclose the surprise where they were going, the mom got fed up and started grabbing the wheel (??) which resulted them going off road into the woods crashing. And then she had the nerve to yell at him saying “Look what you have done!” – I mean??? Oh and when the guy is supposed to “know” what bothers her when she is moody, she is not going to tell him. But likewise, I hate the guys’ games towards women, for example, he messes up, she gets mad at him, he gets mad at her for being mad and turns it around?? Come on, let’s just grow up and talk it out!

BTW – You should really check out Letters to St. Nicholas if you haven’t already! ;)

My answers to moonchild’s questions:

  1. If you had to pick only one, which would you choose - fashionable clothing, makeup or nail polish?
Even though this is hard to choose, I would pick makeup. Yeah I’ve only been writing about polishes, but it’s much easier to photograph hands than face. When it comes to clothes I am clueless.
  2. Do you have a "top of them all" beauty product that you recommend to everybody?
I would say Eveline liquid eyeliner. The best and most precise I’ve ever had.
  3. Bold eyes of bold lips?
Bold eyes, definitely. I think my eyes are a great asset to my face and I’ve had some special reactions after the notion of my eyes in the past from girls and guys both (and not necessarily in a flirtatious way ;))
  4. Nail art or plain nail polish?
Gosh, do I have to choose? I don’t know, the time pressures me to have a plain polish (maybe layered or accented), so if I had to choose, I would say that, but as soon as I have a chance I want some nail art as well! (is that an answer now?)
  5. Your favorite movie(s)/TV show(s)?
I’ve listed some up higher in this post :P
  6. Do you switch perfumes with season? Tell me some of your favorites!
I wear heavier perfumes in winter, but they have no name – either they were bought in Turkey/Egipt or are just some wierd perfumes you can’t really buy in our stores. Spring and summer hold lighter perfumes, more flowery. From the ones you can buy in every drugstore I really like Naomi Campbell’s Naomagic, I loved Exult but it got discontinued or something, and I really like Fiorucci Perfume, it is very very sweet and very special (I don’t like every sweet and strong perfume).
  7. If you could change one thing about yourself in a heartbeat, just like that, what would it be?
To get rid of fear of pain. It affects my life in a way that is incomprehensible, it limits me every day.
  8. What do you think could make your blog even better?
Posting more regularly for sure :D The more you do it, the better you get :)
  9. What's the best thing that's happened to you so far - blog wise?
I’d say getting to know the blog community, you girls are fantastic :) And companies wanting your 2 cents about a product, wow, that’s cool too, I’m honored. ^ ^
  10. If you could speak any language in the world, which would it be?
All of them! I love languages as I’ve said before, but not using them makes me forget even the ones I somewhat knew…
  11. Do you have any big plans for you future (life, blog... anything wise)?
I hope to go to USA on tour soon – fingers crossed that it happens for me too :)

My 11 questions:

  1. Do you consider yourself a polish horder?
  2. How do you store your polishes and beauty products, are they neatly organised or not?
  3. Do you do any DIY stuff, do you like crafting?
  4. What is your greatest accomplishment in life so far?
  5. Who is the one special person from your childhood that is not a family member and why?
  6. What is the last thing you did for the first time?
  7. Cats or dogs?
  8. If you had all the money in the world, what beauty product(s) would you buy?
  9. If you had all the money in the world, where would you live and why?
  10. What is in your case positive and what is negative about blogging?
  11. What is your ultimate favorite movie?

A beautiful mind – my favorite movie :P

NOTD: Rest in the forest on smokey lilac

Hy everybody,

I guess I overworked myself and my body said stop and rest… I’m down with the flu. It’s been a few days now and by now I’ve stopped feeling like being run down by a truck, I’m still sick though. I’m good enough to have the laptop on top of me in my bed and I’m not sleeping all the time :)

Here’s what I wore on my nails a few days ago, Beauty UK’s Smokey lilac, I don’t know why the price on licila.si was only 0,5 €, but with that price it would be a sin not to order it with other stuff…

IMG_7122

I don’t know what it is with these dirty lilac shades, I just love them <3 I just wanted to spice this up a bit with an accented nail and I chose to layer Catrice’s Siberian Call LE polish, Rest in the forest:

I liked what I saw so much that I decided to layer Rest in the forest on all of my nails:

IMG_7126

My god how I love this combination!! <3 I kept staring at my nails for days :)))

As far as the polishes goes, I had a little trouble with Smokey lilac, the application wasn’t as smooth as I would want it to be, there were some bubbles and it wasn’t leveling out by itself, otherwise it was fine, I really like the color. I had no trouble at all with Rest in the forest, if I were to pick a down side of this polish it would only be it’s sheerness – but then again these two polishes together make such a gorgeous combination!! :)

Do you agree? :)

NOTD: Butler please crackle some star dust

I know, I know, it’s not really original, but after a week of not enough sleep and working all days my brain wouldn’t come up with anything better for a title. I just wanted to post again since I am not doing it regularly. In my last post I reviewed my first Essie, thought it was bad and I couldn’t leave it just like that. I am now a proud owner of gazillion new polishes I bought in Germany and it was time to try some more of them out. ;)

I had my eyes on Misslyn Star dust top coat from Future Glam collection for quite some time but had the misfortune of always getting to an empty rack in Slovenia. Now it’s mine! =P Of course my camera had a mind of it’s own regarding colors again (it was much prettier in RL), but check this beauty out!

Oh the sparkling!

…and later I added a purple P2 Crackle polish on my ring fingernail:

Sure, crackles may be out of style now, but I still like them. What do you think?

My first Essie

Or rather – my first Essie disappointment. I was in a drugstore in Germany and there was an Essie rack with Essie Winter Collection. It was not full, but I saw a gorgeous blue polish named Butler please and I thought to myself, I have a job now, I can afford to buy a higher priced polish if I want to. I don’t want to splurge too much though because I know my addiction to polishes would cost me much more if I went off buying expensive polishes like I do the cheap ones. But I can treat myself occasionally with a bottle or two! ;)

Then came the time to try it on! …and then I was disheartened. The formula… awful. The application was streaky, I couldn’t even it out, it kept on bubbling like crazy… I don’t know how many layers of it I’ve put on for it to be decent. And I wasn’t happy at all. Too much trouble and still not a pretty application. Too bad, because the color is just perfect. It dried in a weird finish, semi matte plastic or what would I call it. I kind of like that, but the formula is just bad.

My advice – if you see it on the rack, don’t buy it. It’s just not worth the money (I think it was 7€?) and the troubles, no matter how beautiful this color is. All that glitters is not gold – not even Essie.

2013!!!

Happy New Year everybody!! I really want to thank you all for checking in, reading my blog and commenting, somehow I feel like I “know” some of you =) I’m glad I’m not doing this writing just for myself ^ ^ My 2012 was really amazing, it continued a great streak from 2011, my life turned a way I had previously only dreamed about – so please, dare to dream, it can come true =))) Yes the dream is exhausting and it takes up so much of my time (it’s like a second job), but the rewards, man, the rewards are sooooo worth it! =)))) And on top of that, 2012 brought the birth of my blog and many many many new nail polishes! ;))

Speaking of which, it’s time to show you what I’ve been wearing on New Year’s Eve. My manicure was more wintery than glamorous, but I really wanted to play with some of my new polishes and I wanted to do something special, some kind of nail art and not just simply applying polish. So I started with this goooooorgeous new Kiko 336 I bought in Germany – I think it deserves two photos:

IMG_7078

IMG_7079

It’s a fabulous substitute for P2 Gigantic =P The formula is amazing, it’s completely opaque in two layers and it dries fast, I’m in love =))

I used this Kiko as my basis, I then took a nail stamp plate and stamped two snowflakes on my ring finger, one white (Essence Stamp me white) and one silver (Manhattan LE Liquid metals). With an older Ingrid sparkling white polish (originally destined for french manicure) I sponged snow on the tips of my nails – it was the first time I ever used a sponge, yes, that’s how fresh I still am at this =P It’s not that perfect but I was pleased. Here’s what it looked like:

 IMG_7087

As if that wasn’t enough, I wanted to have something more, I used a P2 Holo top coat to spice it up (LOL now I see written on it “glamurous finish” – I guess I was a little bit glamurous ;))) the end result was this:

IMG_7096

I’m so happy I got to do this, I had such fun doing it =))) Unfortunately the white Ingrid polish turned out to be too old or something because it never thoroughly dried (Better than gel top coat couldn’t save it) and it got smudged the next day… =( At least I get to observe photos if nothing else…. ;) Thank you for checking this out, I’d be happy to read any comments if you have them! =)
